In my family dogs lived with us always, since I can remember. First they were pet German Shepherds and later Giant German Spitzes - all white - we still keep and show today.
Our first Caucasian Ovtcharka was sort of a happenstance, lucky coincidence perhaps. After losing our beloved German Shepherd we've decided for a change on a Rottweiler from our friendly breeder and actually reserved a female puppy expecting rather long wait. Meanwhile we were attending with our German Spitz girl one of the dog shows when for the first time we saw a Caucasian Ovtcharka - and it happened to be one of the greatest of the breed - magnificent DSCHINGIS vom Letzten, International and Polish Champion. Imported to Poland from Germany and sired by famous ROBBER von Hamstereck (Interchampion and Polish Champion, Europe Winner), DSCHINGIS equalled top Russian dogs being a descendant through R-SEMIEN of an ancient lineage of GROZNY - and presenting the most desirable characteristics of this particular type he was to us literally a love from first sight. Promptly we've cancelled our Rottweiler reservation and the very next day arrived to live with us lovely female Caucasian puppy - SARAH z Wolki, DSCHINGIS' daughter, from kennels of Mr and Mrs Skorek. SARAH's pedigree included two old leading lines of GROZNY and CZODR through her dam, ATENA od Kowala who was closely related to famous ALI BEK and ARISZA . This pedigree has formed a sound foundation for our breeding program which successfully continues blood of such legends as CZODR, IKS, GRANAT, GRIM, GROZNY, URAN I, URAN II, R-SEMIEN, DZO-RIF, LIMAN, BURAN and ASZOT. Our SARAH developed into an accomplished show dog and multiple winner despite complex leg fracture at early age of 6,5 months and resulting in two difficult surgeries. Her most important success however was the ability to produce top quality pups and deservedly earn many times a title of Best Breeding Female - once received even from the President of Caucasian Ovtcharka Club in Russia. She became the mother of a number of multiple winners - World, Specialty, Best in Show, Best in Group, Puppy and Junior, Best in Breed, etc. and many International Champions around the globe.
The fact that our breeding lines are recognized and renown widely and we were awarded numerous times a title of Best Breeder at home and abroad is a result of constant hard work and dedication here at HUNZA as well as all owners of Caucasians we have produced.
From the very beginning we've carefully observed practices in betterment and preservation of the breed in Russia but also kept a keen eye on breeders in other countries as well - this is a quite common misconception that the best examples of the breed are found in place of their origin! We strive to select the best studs and mating combinations for our breeding stock in order to achieve and maintain that distinctive, noble and ancient type of Caucasians we fall in love with and HUNZA is known for among the best breeders, judges and breed fanciers around the world. Part of this success is that we always consult every mating with an un-biased party such as geneticists and veterinary specialists, particularly when considering any degree of inbreeding within our own lines - because our goal is not only to produce beautiful but also healthy and smart puppies.
As a breakthrough in our breeding program was an introduction of living in Perm Russian Champion CKIENT, descendant of Russian legend Champion ZHAN KRIST. We've had great results adding this line and decided that this is the right breed type we would like to develop at HUNZA.
In short it can be described as follows
'Perm type Caucasian Ovtcharkas were known for ages as gold standard for the breed and their reputation was legendary. In everyone opinion dogs from city of Perm represented the true type of a Caucasian. Their characteristics included massive, solid build, deep and wide chests, sound, sturdy body and limbs structure and beautiful, large skulls resembling bear's head (wide on top with well developed cheeks and small, slightly slanted eyes). This kind of head was described by experts as Perm type' (by O. Krasnowska, N. Pszenicznikowa "Kavkazskaja Ovtcharka").
The same authors emphasized disposition being just as important as the physique - and these dogs should be
'Active, mean but very attached and affectionate toward their owners and very trainable'
Year 2002 was another milestone in history of HUNZA - we've merged with Italian kennel 'di Ca'Bastiani' (est. 1994) which based on old, leading Hungarian breeding lines.
All dogs belong now to one family despite being listed under old names for these two kennels - by this arrangement we've preserved our individual trademarks we've worked long and hard to establish yet now we can work together as partners, friends and husband and wife.
(Yes, you've guessed that - Justyna and Luca got hitched!).
We are breeding dogs for a long time and are proud to announce that:
- for 14 years we are accumulating experience and knowledge in breeding Caucasian Ovtcharkas to preserve, popularize and improve the breed exclusively in Perm type
- with our hard work and dedication we've developed a very distinct type of Caucasian Ovtcharka widely appreciated by experts, breeders and dog fanciers around the world
- we've bred many magnificent dogs with outstanding parentage descending from most prominent breeding lines in Russia and elsewhere
- we've produced the largest number of most titled Caucasians in Poland and very likely in the world; dogs of our immediate breeding and born out or sired by them were awarded all possible titles known to showring - World Winner, Best in Show, Best in Breed, etc. - world-wide
- our dogs are bred for ideal appearance and disposition defined by original breed standard and represent pure Perm type of Caucasian Ovtcharkas descending directly from most valuable genuine Perm stock
- we provide our dogs with most comfortable accommodation and individual attention, experienced and intelligent care in all aspects of their development from puppyhood to old age, medical care and stimulating everyday environment.
We breed dogs as our lifetime passion and a hobby - and in our small way to make a difference and improve this magnificent species to be able to further accompany mankind in their journey through changing times and just like in the very beginning providing comfort, affection and assistance.
We take pride in our dogs being awarded at showring but are just as happy to provide great working companions and cherished pets to those who love Caucasians for what they are - after all, aren't they are all winners? Because we are in this for the most important reason there is - the love of dogs.
